Models and frameworks have the ability to effectively guide companies along their journey to sustainability. Both models and frameworks provide businesses information on gathering baseline information and provide information for them to benchmark against. Depending on the model or framework used, suggestions as to how companies can increase their sustainability may also be offered. Models and frameworks can be of great help for a company if they are properly committed to the process and are well positioned to take on the extra responsibility that may come with adhering to the model. Companies must realize that although it may take time, effort and funds to transform the company to follow a framework, great advantages can come from doing so. It is important to also recognize that different companies may choose to use different models or frameworks. Further, some may find that models or frameworks don't work for their company at all. This may be due to industry, size, complexity or organization type. It is important that owners, board members and directors conduct in-depth research prior to deciding which models or frameworks do or do not work for them. They must also ensure they understand the full extent of the implications adhering to a framework or model will have for their business. It is ultimately at the discretion of those in the decision making positions to decide what is right for their business.
